Cemetery Ghost Walk Offers Thrills, Chills, and History

October 5-7

Girard's first cemetery walk in 2002 drew a small crowd of 83 people who sloshed bravely through an early fall snowstorm just for the thrill of moving among gravestones and ghosts in the dead of night.  Since then,  the Girard Cemetery Ghost Walk has become a much-anticipated annual event, luring more than 1000 souls into the cemetery for a visit with the spirits of local residents who rise from their graves for one October weekend to meet and chat with their guests.

Sponsored by the Hazel Kibler Museum, the Ghost Walk has become the museum's major fundraiser while providing a unique way for area residents to learn a bit of local history.  Volunteers in period costume portry former area citizens while standing near the headstgone of their chosen individual.  Lantern-bearers guide participants through the cemetery to insure the safety of both visitors and the cemetery grounds.

This year's walk, now expanded to three days, is scheduled for October 5, 6, and 7 and features new stories along with some spooky surprises.  Tours depart from the Hazel Kibler Museum, 522 East Main Street in Girard at
7:30pm, 9:00pm, 10:30pm, and 12 midnight on October 5 and 6, and 7:30pm
and 9:00pm on October 7.  Refreshments follow at the museum.  As the tour
is not appropriate for young children,  children 10 and under are invited
to attend a supervised "Harry Potter Party" at the museum during the
7:30pm and 9:00pm tours.  Cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under.
